Nikola hydrogen truck has 500-mile range in production

Sustainable trucking company Nikola has announced that it has started the production of its hydrogen fuel cell electric truck. The vehicle is said to have a range of up to 500 miles.

The announcement was made on X, formerly Twitter, where Nikola shared a photo of its employees working on the frame of the upcoming truck. Although the truck is still in its early stages of buildout, the photo provides a glimpse into the production facility of the startup.

It is likely that the hydrogen fuel cell truck announced by Nikola is a variant of the Nikola Tre, which is currently being sold as a battery-electric truck. The company has not mentioned its other hydrogen vehicles, the Nikola One and Nikola Two, recently.

Nikola's announcement aligns with its earlier predictions of starting serial production of hydrogen fuel cell trucks in July. The truck is expected to have a range of 500 miles, approximately 536 horsepower, and a fueling time of about 20 minutes.

Despite past challenges and controversies, Nikola seems to be experiencing a steady recovery. The company has received orders for 140 hydrogen fuel cell trucks and has entered into a deal with J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. for the acquisition of 13 zero-emission Class 8 trucks, including three hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.
