Nikola's recall of 209 delivered trucks for fire hazard
【Summary】Nikola is recalling all 209 battery-powered electric trucks due to a coolant leak causing fires. Sales are suspended as the company investigates. No injuries reported.
Nikola Corp. has announced that it is recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales after a recent investigation revealed a coolant leak as the cause of several fires. The company is taking action to ensure the safety of its customers and is in the process of contacting all parties involved.
According to a spokesperson for Nikola, there are currently 209 battery-powered electric trucks in the marketplace, including those with dealers and customers. All of these vehicles will be recalled as a precautionary measure.
The investigation into the fires was conducted by a third-party investigator, and their preliminary findings were confirmed by a "minor thermal incident" on one of the parked engineering-validation trucks. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of these incidents.
Nikola has stated that foul play or external factors are unlikely to be the cause of these incidents. The company is now focused on finding a solution to the coolant leak issue and is working diligently to address the problem.
The investigation into these fires began in June when trucks at the company's headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, caught fire. One of the damaged trucks, which was being kept at the site for monitoring purposes, re-ignited last month. These incidents prompted Nikola to initiate a thorough investigation and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of its vehicles.
