Rock damages BMW windscreen on PIE

A 51-year-old man had a frightening experience while driving his BMW vehicle along the PIE (Pan-Island Expressway) towards Bukit Batok Ave 6 on Sep. 18, 2023. Out of nowhere, a rock suddenly fell onto his windscreen, causing a significant crack near the driver's seat.

This unusual incident was captured by the dashcam inside the vehicle and later shared with Mothership by the man's daughter, who goes by the surname Lee.

The video clip showed that a small rock fell onto senior Lee's vehicle at around 4:40 pm last Monday while he was driving under a flyover. However, it remained unclear where exactly the rock came from.

Upon impact, the windscreen glass immediately shattered, leaving tiny pieces of glass shards scattered all over the front panel of the vehicle. Another video provided by Lee showed that glass shards could also be found on the passenger's seats in both the front and back rows.

Thankfully, the driver was not injured during the incident, although his family discovered some glass shards in his hair and clothes afterward.

Regarding the cost of replacing the windscreen, Lee mentioned that the family would be claiming the amount from their insurance company. The estimated cost is more than S$300.

Images of the incident were shared with Mothership by a reader.
