Rolls-Royce Droptail Revealed in Monterey, Limited to Four Units

The Rolls-Royce Coachbuild division has recently unveiled its latest creation, the Droptail, during Monterey Car Week. This exclusive car is limited to only four units worldwide, with the first one, known as La Rose Noire, being presented in California.

The design of the La Rose Noire Droptail draws inspiration from the Black Baccara, a French rose that was a favorite flower of the family who commissioned the car. It features a unique red finish that appears black in the shade but has a pearlescent red glow under the sun. Rolls-Royce achieved this special paint by combining two shades of red called True Love and Mystery.

Unlike the Rolls-Royce Sweptail and Boat Tail, the Droptail has a new monocoque chassis made from steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber, instead of being based on the Architecture of Luxury platform. However, it still boasts the powerful 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine that produces 593 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. While the Droptail is not focused on straight-line performance, it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than 5.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph.

The exterior design of the Droptail sets it apart from other Rolls-Royce models. It features a conventional front end with a large chrome grille and slim LED headlights, while the bodywork adopts a sleek and flowing design along the sides. The rear end showcases unique taillights and is equipped with a stylish spoiler and an eye-catching decklid. Additionally, the car comes with a removable carbon fiber roof panel that includes electrochromic panels.

The interior of the Droptail is described by Rolls-Royce as the "most remarkable element" of the car. It took nearly two years to perfect and features complex artwork that represents falling rose petals, crafted from 1,603 pieces of black wood veneer. The seats are adorned with a combination of True Love red and Mystery red leather, and the center of the dash showcases a custom timepiece by Audemars Piguet. This detachable 43 mm chronograph incorporates red counters and a red inner bezel, and it can be worn with a strap.

In addition to the car, the family who commissioned the Droptail also ordered a one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce Champagne Chest to match. This chest can be opened at the press of a button and includes hand-blown crystal champagne flutes and a serving tray.

The price of each of the four Droptail models has not been disclosed by Rolls-Royce, but sources estimate that they will cost around $25 million each.
