In recent years, there has been a growing focus among Swedish electric vehicle makers on China's premium EV car market. Similarly, Chinese automobile makers like Hongqi have chosen Sweden, Norway, and other Northern European countries as their first stop to establish R&D facilities and promote their new electric vehicle brands in the European markets.
At the 26th edition of the Chengdu Motor Show, Swedish premium electric vehicle maker Polestar announced a partnership with Mobileye. This partnership aims to incorporate Mobileye's Chauffeur autonomous driving technology into the Polestar 4, their latest offering.
The Chengdu Motor Show, which took place on August 25, 2023, is the largest annual auto show in western China. During the event, Polestar showcased their Polestar 4, a pure electric high-performance SUV, and the Polestar 3, an ultra-luxury pure electric SUV.
The Polestar 4 is particularly noteworthy as it is the first production car to feature Mobileye's Chauffeur autonomous driving technology. This technology is based on Mobileye SuperVision-based ADAS and sets the foundation for future advancements in autonomous driving.
Mobileye, known for producing advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technology, has already equipped over 150 million cars worldwide with their systems. Their upcoming Chauffeur technology is expected to provide hands-free, point-to-point autonomous driving on highways, along with eyes-on automated driving for various environments.
