Tesla Cybertruck winter testing in New Zealand
【Summary】Tesla has been testing its Cybertruck in New Zealand, with sightings of up to five trucks at the test site. One of the trucks was labeled as a "Cybr-ute." The testing includes both camouflaged units and steel-bodied trucks with triangular rear side mirrors. Photos also show the frunk of a unit being opened, revealing some internal components.
Tesla has been increasing its testing of the upcoming steel-bodied Cybertruck over the past two months. Some of the testing is taking place in New Zealand, which is a popular location for winter testing.
Recently, there have been sightings of up to five Cybertrucks at the test site, indicating that the testing efforts have intensified. Previously, only two Cybertrucks were seen on site, both with a unique camouflage wrap.
These sightings were made possible by pictures shared on Twitter by a Cybertruck enthusiast in New Zealand. One of the pictures shows three steel-bodied Cybertrucks parked next to a shed, with one of them labeled as "Cybr-ute."
Other pictures also captured the camouflaged test units, bringing the total count to at least five units on site. All of them had the expected triangular rear side mirrors, suggesting that they resemble the production version of the Cybertruck.
Fans of the Cybertruck found the increase in the number of vehicles amusing, with one person commenting, "They've been sneaking them in."
To provide some context, the first Tesla Cybertruck with a large frunk opening was seen at the winter test site in June. It was delivered to the site in a covered trailer.
Additionally, new photos were shared showing the frunk of a Cybertruck being opened, revealing some of its internal components. Although the exact nature of these components is unclear, it is evident that the frunk extends for a significant portion of the Cybertruck's width.
The size of the Cybertruck makes other vehicles parked closer to the camera appear much smaller.
The winter testing for Tesla vehicles takes place at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds (SHPG) in the South Island of New Zealand. This testing is happening just before the truck is scheduled to enter full production later this quarter.
With the first customer delivery event for the Cybertruck expected to happen in a few weeks, the large number of vehicles undergoing winter testing indicates Tesla's commitment to ensuring the vehicle can perform well in all terrains.
This level of testing provides reassurance to the hundreds of thousands of reservation holders who will be putting the Cybertruck through its paces in the coming years.
