Tesla Cybertruck winter testing New Zealand
【Summary】Tesla is ramping up testing of its Cybertruck in New Zealand, with sightings of up to five vehicles at the test site. One of the trucks, labeled "Cybr-ute," caught the attention of fans. The testing includes both steel-bodied trucks and camouflaged units. The frunk, or front trunk, was also photographed, revealing some internal components. Tesla's focus on winter testing suggests a commitment to ensuring the Cybertruck performs well in all terrains before customer deliveries begin.
Over the past two months, Tesla has been conducting extensive testing of its upcoming Cybertruck, which features a steel body. The testing is taking place in New Zealand, a popular location for winter testing.
Recently, there have been increased efforts in the testing process, with sightings of up to five Cybertrucks at the test site. This is a significant increase from the previous sightings, where only two Cybertrucks with unique camouflage wraps were spotted.
These sightings were made possible through pictures shared by a Cybertruck enthusiast from New Zealand, known as CybertruckNZ, on Twitter/X.
One of the shared pictures shows three steel-bodied Cybertrucks parked next to a shed, with the tailgate of the Cybertruck on the far right labeled as "Cybr-ute".
In other pictures, the camouflaged test units were also seen, bringing the total count to at least five units on site. All of them had the expected triangular rear side mirrors, which are likely to be featured in the production version of the Cybertruck.
The increased number of Cybertrucks amused fans of the vehicle, with one person commenting, "They've been sneaking them in."
To provide a timeline of the Cybertruck sightings in New Zealand, the first Cybertruck with a large frunk opening was seen at the winter test site in June. This unit was transported to the site in a covered trailer.
Speaking of the frunk, new photos were shared, revealing the internals of a Cybertruck's frunk when opened. Although the specific components are unclear, it is evident that the frunk extends for a significant portion of the Cybertruck's width.
The size of the Cybertruck makes other vehicles parked closer to the camera appear much smaller.
The winter testing for Tesla vehicles takes place at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds (SHPG) in the South Island. This timing aligns with the upcoming ramped production of the Cybertruck in the current quarter.
With the first customer delivery event for the Cybertruck estimated to be just weeks away, the large number of vehicles undergoing winter testing demonstrates Tesla's commitment to ensuring the vehicle's performance in all terrains.
This provides reassurance to the hundreds of thousands of reservation holders who will be eager to test the Cybertruck's capabilities when they receive it in the coming years.
