Tesla Thailand factory hinted by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin of Thailand has hinted at the possibility of a Tesla manufacturing facility being established in the country. During a recent meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the Prime Minister discussed various topics including Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister shared his thoughts on the meeting, stating, "We had a good conversation on Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink technology. I am impressed with the advancements made by the group for humanity, and we share a common vision for a cleaner world. We look forward to further discussions and the success of electric vehicles and space exploration."

As a result of these discussions, the Prime Minister expects Thailand to receive significant investments from companies such as Tesla, Google, and Microsoft. While the exact amount of investment from each company was not disclosed, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in his statement.

Earlier this year, Tesla delivered its first Model 3 and Model Y units in Thailand. These vehicles, imported from Giga Shanghai in China, were not subject to import fees. However, customers in Thailand did not qualify for government EV subsidies as the vehicles were not manufactured in the country.

Elon Musk has also engaged with political leaders in other Southeast Asian countries. In August 2023, he met with Indonesian officials to discuss the possibility of a Tesla plant in Indonesia. These interactions highlight the growing interest in electric vehicles and sustainable technology in the region.
