Tesla's Train Shuttle to Giga Berlin in September

Tesla is set to launch its own train shuttle to Giga Berlin starting in September. The train will run approximately 60 times a day and will not only transport factory employees but will also be available for free use by citizens.

Tesla's development in Germany with Giga Berlin aims to benefit local residents and create comfortable working conditions for employees. However, due to the remote location of Giga Berlin, employees have had to rely on cars, buses, and trains to get to work, followed by another bus depending on their origin. This has proven to be an inconvenient and environmentally unfriendly method of transportation. To address this issue, Tesla decided to utilize the existing railway on the Giga Berlin site to transport its employees.

After more than a year of planning and implementation, Tesla announced on Thursday that the new shuttle service will begin operating in September. The train will travel between Erkner railway station and the station adjacent to Giga Berlin, starting from Monday, September 4.

The shuttle will run approximately 60 times a day from Monday to Friday, providing transportation for over 1,500 employees per shift directly to the factory building. This initiative will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Tesla employees and alleviate traffic congestion on the roads near the factory and Erkner, particularly during peak hours. Additionally, local residents will also benefit from this shuttle service, as it will be available for their use. It is worth noting that the Tesla shuttle is free of charge and is intended to replace the existing bus service between Erkner. The launch of the shuttle was approved by the Department of Construction and Transport of the State of Brandenburg in February.

The selection of the Giga Berlin location was based on careful and balanced decision-making. One of the factors considered was the presence of a railway line that connects the Freienbrink industrial area with other tracks, passing through the factory site. In January 2022, it was revealed that Tesla had acquired the existing railway track from the Deutsche Regionaleisenbahn Group (DRE) to improve the connection to Giga Berlin. Although trains had not been running on this section of the railway for approximately a year prior to Tesla's involvement, the infrastructure was in good condition. Originally designed for competitive freight traffic, the railway offers several advantages for Tesla.
