Tesla's unconventional Cybertruck camouflage fails to deceive
【Summary】Tesla's upcoming Cybertruck has been spotted in public, despite attempts to disguise it as other vehicles like the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra. Some speculate that Tesla is trying to keep the Cybertruck unnoticed until its official launch, while others think they may be testing wraps for customization options. It could also be a joke aimed at mocking rival designs. Either way, the wraps don't effectively hide the Cybertruck's unique shape.
Tesla is set to launch its highly anticipated Cybertruck electric pickup in September. However, despite efforts to keep it under wraps, the futuristic vehicle has already been spotted in public.
Earlier this month, a broken-down Cybertruck was seen poorly disguised as a Ford F-150. Now, it has been sighted attempting to pass as a Toyota Tundra. So what's the reason behind these disguises?
Footage of the Cybertruck had previously shown it covered in camouflage wrap. However, Tesla seems to have realized that military camo is not the most effective disguise in an urban environment. As a result, they have started disguising the pickup as other vehicles, although their attempts have not fooled anyone.
In addition to the F-150 disguise, videos posted on the Cybertruck Owner's Club's forum reveal the vehicle impersonating a Toyota Tundra, one of the top-selling pickups in the US.
There are speculations regarding the purpose of these disguises. One theory is that Tesla is trying to keep the Cybertruck unnoticed in the wild until its official launch. However, the wraps do little to hide the Cybertruck's unique and distinctive shape.
Another possibility is that Tesla is testing these wraps with the intention of offering them in the market. The Cybertruck will only be available with its original stainless steel finish, so wraps could be the only way to customize it. While third-party companies are likely to launch their own products, Tesla might also be considering offering its own wraps.
Alternatively, this could all be a playful joke aimed at trolling its rivals, which aligns with Elon Musk's sense of humor. Musk has criticized other pickup designs as "boring" and has been inspired to create the Cybertruck with its science-fiction influences. Wrapping the Cybertruck to resemble other vehicles could be a way of highlighting how ordinary and unremarkable its competitors appear in comparison.
