Toyota bZ4X extended trial

The Toyota bZ4X is a new electric SUV that competes with models like the Nissan Ariya, Skoda Enyaq iV, and Tesla Model Y. It is offered in both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions, with the latter having an additional electric motor for the rear wheels and slightly more power. The bZ4X has a 64kWh usable battery capacity, which is slightly smaller than its competitors. The entry-level front-wheel-drive variant has an official range of 317 miles, while the top-spec all-wheel-drive Vision model, which I have chosen, has a range of 259 miles.

Despite the relatively modest range, Toyota is actively working on developing electric models with significantly longer ranges. In the meantime, the bZ4X is Toyota's first battery-powered EV for Europe, and I am fortunate to have it as my next company car.

Although the range of the bZ4X may not be as impressive as some of its similarly priced or cheaper rivals, I am confident that it will be sufficient for my daily driving needs and occasional long journeys. I plan to charge the vehicle overnight at home, but if needed, I can utilize a public rapid charger capable of providing a 10-80% charge in about 30 minutes at the bZ4X's peak rate of 150kW.

In the range-topping Vision trim, my bZ4X comes well-equipped with features such as heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, a foot-operated electric tailgate, adaptive cruise control, and a panoramic glass roof. The seats are upholstered in light grey synthetic leather, although this option is no longer available, with black being the only choice now.
