Toyota, the Japanese automotive giant, has issued a recall of approximately 168,000 vehicles in the US due to a potential fire risk. The recall specifically affects certain 2022 and 2023 model-year Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles. According to Toyota, these vehicles are equipped with a plastic fuel tube that has the potential to move and rub against a brake line, leading to a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, this fuel leak could increase the risk of a fire.

To address this issue, Toyota will be replacing the fuel tube with an improved part and adding additional clamps at no cost to customers. However, the automaker is currently in the process of preparing the remedy parts for this recall. In the meantime, affected customers will receive temporary measures, including the installation of protective materials and a clamp on the fuel tube.

To ensure that owners are aware of the issue, Toyota plans to notify affected customers by early October 2023. This recall comes after eight automakers, including Toyota, voluntarily recalled over 100,000 vehicles last year to address various faulty components.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reported that the eight companies, which include Toyota, Kia, Ford Sales and Service Korea, Volkswagen Group Korea, Jaguar Land Rover Korea, BMW Korea, Dasan Heavy Industries Co, and Motostar Korea, recalled a total of 102,169 units across 52 different models. The recalls were prompted by issues such as a faulty assistant heating system in Kia's Sorento SUV, a faulty transmission system in Ford's Fusion sedan, and software problems in the Audi A6 Premium 45 TFSI quattro sedan imported by Volkswagen Group Korea.
