Toyota recalls vehicles over fire risk

Toyota, the Japanese automotive giant, has issued a recall for approximately 168,000 vehicles in the United States due to a potential fire risk. The recall specifically affects certain 2022 and 2023 model-year Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles. According to Toyota, these vehicles are equipped with a plastic fuel tube that could rub against a brake line, causing a fuel leak. If a fuel leak occurs in the presence of an ignition source, it could significantly increase the risk of fire.

To address this issue, Toyota will replace the fuel tube with an improved part and add additional clamps at no cost to customers. The automaker is currently in the process of preparing the remedy parts for this recall. In the meantime, affected customers will receive temporary measures, including the installation of protective materials and a clamp on the fuel tube, until the final remedy parts become available. Toyota plans to notify owners about this recall by early October 2023.

This is not the first time Toyota has issued a recall. Last year, along with seven other automakers, including Kia, Ford, and Volkswagen, Toyota voluntarily recalled over 100,000 vehicles to address various faulty components. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reported that a total of 102,169 units of 52 different models were affected by these recalls. The issues ranged from a faulty assistant heating system in Kia's Sorento SUV to a faulty transmission system in Ford's Fusion sedan and software problems in the Audi A6 Premium 45 TFSI quattro sedan imported by Volkswagen Group Korea.
