Tragic Mercedes Crash Claims Lives of Siblings in Heckenberg

An alleged stolen Mercedes was spotted speeding down a suburban street before colliding head-on with another car, resulting in the deaths of a brother and sister. The tragic incident occurred in Heckenberg, a suburb in Sydney's southwest, around 9:20 pm on Friday night. Alina Kauffman, 24, and Ernesto Salazer, 15, were just meters away from their home when the accident took place.

The Mercedes crashed into the Toyota Echo that Alina and Ernesto were in, before striking a stationary Toyota RAV4 and flipping onto its side. Sadly, both siblings lost their lives at the scene. Their mother, Angelina Kauffman, returned to the crash site on Saturday and was overcome with grief.

The occupants of the RAV4 were unharmed, while the individuals inside the Mercedes reportedly fled the scene after the horrific crash. On Saturday, a 20-year-old man turned himself in at Liverpool Police Station and was subsequently arrested. As of now, he has not been charged as investigations continue.

CCTV footage allegedly captured the Mercedes traveling at high speed on a residential road just moments before the collision. Alina had picked up her brother from his new job at Kmart, and they were almost home when tragedy struck. Their mother, devastated by the loss, expressed her heartbreak to reporters, unable to comprehend why her children were taken from her.

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance attempted to treat Alina and Ernesto at the scene, but unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries. Angelina arrived at the crash site shortly after receiving a phone call from Alina, who assured her that they were on their way home. When she didn't hear from them for 20 minutes, Angelina and her other child used social media to track their location. It was then that the police arrived and delivered the devastating news.

A crime scene was established, and the Mercedes was seized by the police for forensic examination. After colliding with the two vehicles, the three individuals in the Mercedes climbed out of the overturned car and allegedly fled the scene in a Volkswagen Golf. Acting Assistant Commissioner Anthony Boyd stated that high-speed appears to be a contributing factor in the collision. He condemned their behavior, emphasizing that fleeing the scene without offering assistance was unacceptable.

Police are still working to determine the relationship between the vehicles and their occupants. The three individuals from the Mercedes were not found in the second vehicle when it was stopped later on. It has been confirmed that the black Mercedes had been reported stolen. An 18-year-old man who was driving the Golf was arrested on Saturday but has since been released without charge. Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

The tragic crash claimed the lives of a 24-year-old driver and her 15-year-old passenger, who were treated by paramedics but could not be saved.
