TWR's Revamped Jaguar XJS Designed by Magnus Walker and Khyzyl Saleem

The reborn British engineering firm TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) has provided more information about its upcoming model, marking the start of a new era for the company. After teasing its release last month, it has been revealed that the new "bespoke high-performance automobile" will be based on the Jaguar XJS. This suggests that the project will involve a comprehensive restomod approach and will likely be produced in limited quantities.

As part of this exciting venture, TWR has enlisted the expertise of renowned designer and collector Magnus Walker, who will serve as a Design Consultant and contribute to the development process. For the exterior design, TWR has collaborated with Khyzyl Saleem, also known as the Kyza, a well-known figure in the industry for his digital renderings and the creation of extreme bodykits through his company Live To Offend (LTO).

The Jaguar XJS, which originally debuted in 1975 and remained in production until 1996, served as the foundation for this project. Its design was the result of the work of the legendary designer Malcolm Sayer, who also played a significant role in the creation of its predecessor, the iconic E-Type. TWR has previously worked on racecars based on the XJS, enhancing its chassis and V12 engine. The firm now aims to "reimagine" and bring the sportscar into the 21st century with the help of a world-class engineering team, as well as the collaboration with designers Magnus Walker and Khyzyl Saleem.

Khyzyl Saleem expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it goes beyond designing a bodykit and involves creating a fully functional, performance-driven car. He emphasized their ambition to breathe new life into the "unloved" XJS, describing their vision as something "pretty badass".

Magnus Walker, who had already envisioned a similar project for the XJS prior to joining TWR, shared his perspective on the vehicle. He discussed his conversations with Ian Callum about an "outlaw version" of the XJS, drawing inspiration from Jaguar Classic's XJ6 restomod project for Iron Maiden's drummer Nicko McBrain. Walker also expressed his belief that the original XJS had been misunderstood and outlined his goals for TWR's version, emphasizing the importance of drivability, usability, and practicality.

TWR plans to unveil further details about the "reimagined" Jaguar XJS project in early 2024. In the meantime, enthusiasts can catch a glimpse of the sportscar's muscular rear fenders in the official teaser released by the company.
