The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer has introduced an electric powertrain, joining its hatchback sibling in offering a range of 256 miles on a single charge.

Compared to the regular Astra Electric hatchback, the estate version provides significantly more space, with luggage capacity increasing from 352 to 516 litres. This expands to a generous 1553 litres when the rear seats are folded down.

Both EVs share the same components under the hood, featuring a 54kWh battery and a single motor that delivers 153bhp and 199lb ft of torque to the front axle. Vauxhall has prioritized efficiency, achieving an impressive 4.2mpkWh.

When it comes to recharging, the Astra Sports Tourer Electric can be charged at rates of up to 100kW, with a 20-80% charge taking just 26 minutes.

Performance-wise, the estate matches the hatchback, with the only difference being a slight reduction in range by two miles. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds.

Inside the vehicle, both the hatchback and estate models feature a 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and an equally sized digital instrument display.

In terms of pricing, the Sports Tourer Electric is slightly more expensive than the hatchback. The entry-level Design trim starts at £39,995, which is a premium of £2550. The GS trim adds black exterior accents, a 360-degree camera, and adaptive cruise control, and is priced at £42,445. The range-topping Ultimate trim offers adaptive headlights and a panoramic sunroof for £45,505.

Currently, the Sports Tourer Electric faces limited competition in the electric estate market. The MG 5 SW EV, priced at £30,995, was the only mainstream electric estate for a while, but it is now joined by the Peugeot E-308 SW, which shares a close relation with the Astra.
