The Toyota Rangga Concept has made its debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). This multi-purpose pick-up truck is a modified version of the IMV 0 concept presented by Akio Toyoda in Thailand last December.

The concept aims to provide buyers with a customizable platform. At GIIAS 2023, Toyota showcased its own variants of the Rangga, including the Mobile Cafe, Ambulance, Mobile Service Station for EVs, and Pace Car.

To encourage public participation and generate new variants, Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) organized a contest. Participants were invited to create digital renderings of the vehicle based on three different themes: business, lifestyle, and public service.

On the contest website, numerous ideas were submitted, ranging from an ice cream truck to a fire-fighting vehicle, a camper, an ambulance, and a mobile cafe, among others. Nine winners will have their renderings turned into mockups and presented during the Rangga's official launch.

The Rangga is expected to go into series production and be available for sale in late 2023 or early 2024. Reports suggest that Thailand will be the initial rollout location, followed by Indonesia and other markets. The production Rangga is expected to be priced below the Hilux, between 200 million and 300 million rupiah.

According to a report, the Rangga will also be sold in the Philippines, initially offering turbodiesel and petrol engines, with hybrid and fully electric options to be added in the future. The vehicle will come in cab and chassis models, although no official technical details have been provided by Toyota yet.

The name 'Rangga' is inspired by the Javanese word 'ronggo,' which symbolizes strength and toughness. It was previously used for a variant of the Kijang sold in Indonesia in the 1990s. The earlier generations of the Kijang, known as the Tamaraw in the Philippines, were primarily multi-purpose pick-ups before evolving into more passenger-focused MPVs.
