2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid and PHEV remain unchanged

Kia introduced the refreshed Sorento SUV to the South Korean market in July. Since then, Kia has incorporated similar features throughout its lineup, such as ornate DRLs and taillights, vertically oriented headlights, and a single curved display panel above a wide air vent. However, the 2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid and PHEV models differ from the South Korean version. In the U.S. market, the 2024 Sorento remains largely unchanged with minor trim adjustments. Both powertrain versions no longer offer the option of Runway Red exterior paint, despite Kia releasing photos of the hybrid model in that color. Additionally, the $295 Navy Color Pack, exclusively available on the top SX-P trims, can now be paired with Gravity Blue exterior paint and features a gray headliner instead of the previous black headliner.

The prices of the 2024 Sorento have slightly increased compared to the 2023 model. The 2024 Sorento PHEV, available only in SX-P trim, is priced at $49,990, $100 more than before. It also requires a $1,325 destination fee, which is $30 more than the previous year, resulting in a total of $51,315. Equipped with standard all-wheel drive, the PHEV is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine assisted by a 66.9-kW motor. It utilizes a six-speed transmission and delivers a combined output of 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 14.1-kWh battery pack provides up to 32 miles of pure-electric range. The EPA rated last year's model at 34 miles per gallon combined on gasoline power or 79 mpg-equivalent on the combined powertrain.

The MSRPs for the 2024 Sorento Hybrid (non-plug-in) after the $1,325 destination charge, along with their differences from the 2023 model, are as follows:

  • EX FWD: $36,690 ($130 increase)
  • EX AWD: $38,990 ($630 increase)
  • SX-P: $42,490 ($100 increase)

The EX AWD trim sees the most significant price increase, rising over $600 compared to last year's model, which already had a $700 increase for the 2023 model year.

The powertrain of the 2024 Sorento Hybrid begins with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, assisted by a less powerful 44-kW motor. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and delivers a combined output of 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The EPA estimates fuel economy at 39 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 37 mpg combined for the front-wheel-drive model. The all-wheel-drive variant experiences a slight decrease in fuel efficiency.

It is possible that the refreshed Sorento from Kia's home market will arrive as a 2025 model. However, before that, we can expect to receive information about the non-hybrid 2024 Sorento.
