2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain Arrives in the US

Introducing the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain, a vehicle ready to challenge the dominance of pickup trucks and SUVs in the market. Despite the popularity of these body styles, the arrival of the second-generation E-Class All-Terrain proves that there is still a market for other options. This model is set to make its way to the United States.

The E-Class All-Terrain is prepared to go head-to-head with competitors such as the Audi A6 Allroad and the Volvo V90 Cross Country. It comes equipped with standard all-wheel drive, Armatic air suspension, and boasts an extra 1.8 inches (46 millimeters) of ground clearance compared to the E-Class wagon.

A single engine variant, the E 450, will be available for American customers. This engine is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 375 horsepower (381 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. With the Boost function, it can generate an additional 23 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph (210 kph).

European customers will have a wider range of options, with three versions available. These include a four-cylinder mild-hybrid diesel (E 220), a six-cylinder gasoline engine (E 450), and a four-cylinder diesel plug-in hybrid (E300 de). The diesel engine (E 220 d) produces 194 horsepower (197 PS) and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 8.1 seconds. Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid (E 300 de) combines the same engine with an electric motor to generate 308 horsepower (312 PS) and achieve a 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) time of 6.9 seconds. The plug-in hybrid version can also travel up to 62 miles (102 kilometers) on battery power alone, according to the testing cycle.

The 2024 E-Class All-Terrain is based on the E-Class estate and features a redesigned radiator grille with two bars in Iridium Silver finish and wheel-arch cladding, giving it a more SUV-like appearance. It also offers 1.8 inches (46 millimeters) of extra ground clearance. The Armatic air suspension can lower the car by 0.6 inches (15 millimeters) at speeds above 75 mph (120 kph) to improve aerodynamics.

With dimensions of 195 inches (4,950 millimeters) in length, 75 inches (1,904 millimeters) in width, and 58.9 inches (1,497 millimeters) in height, the E-Class All-Terrain provides ample space for passengers. The wheelbase has been extended by 0.86 inches (22 millimeters), resulting in increased legroom for rear passengers. The standard tire size is 18-inch with 235/55 R 18, but 19- and 20-inch wheels are also available.

The E-Class All-Terrain offers an Off-Road driving program and a "transparent hood" function, which utilizes a 360-degree camera to provide visibility underneath the hood. While it may not have the same capabilities as the G-Class, it is still capable of tackling off-road terrain to some extent.

In terms of cargo space, the E-Class All-Terrain offers a load capacity of 615 liters/21.7 cubic inches to 1,830 liters/64.6 cubic inches (with the rear seats backrest folded down). The plug-in hybrid model, which has the battery in the trunk, provides 460 liters (16 cubic inches) to 1,675 liters (59 cubic inches) of cargo space.

The interior of the E-Class All-Terrain follows the same design principles as the sedan and wagon models. It features an optional front-passenger display and offers various entertainment options, such as watching videos or playing games.

When it comes to towing, the All-Terrain (including the plug-in hybrid version) has a braked towing capacity of up to 2,100 kilograms (4,630 pounds) and an unbraked towing capacity of 750 kilograms (1,653 pounds).

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2024, with pricing details to be announced closer to the launch date.
