2024 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Priced from $74,181

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the pricing for its first fully electric van in North America, the eSprinter. The eSprinter is based on Mercedes-Benz Vans' new Electric Versatility Platform and is now available for order at authorized US dealerships. The starting price for the eSprinter is $74,181, including a destination and delivery charge of $2,295. It's important to note that the high price is not due to the Chicken Tax, as the eSprinter for North America will be assembled in Charleston, South Carolina.

Compared to the Ford E-Transit, which starts at $51,890, the eSprinter comes as standard in the US in a 170-inch long wheelbase cargo version with a high-roof configuration. This provides more payload and cargo capacity than the longest E-Transit with a 148-inch wheelbase.

The eSprinter is powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a usable capacity of 113 kilowatt-hours. It is expected to have a WLTP range of around 249 miles, which translates to an estimated EPA range of about 200 miles. The LFP chemistry used in the battery is ideal for light commercial vehicles due to its durability and does not require the use of cobalt or nickel.

Charging options for the eSprinter include an on-board AC charger with a maximum charging power of 9.6 kW and a standard maximum charging power of up to 50 kW at DC fast-charging stations. Customers also have the option to upgrade to DC fast charging capability of up to 115 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent state of charge in just over 40 minutes.

The eSprinter is equipped with a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that weighs 286 pounds. Mercedes offers two power levels for the motor, with 134 horsepower or 201 horsepower, both delivering a torque of up to 295 pound-feet for at least 30 seconds. The vehicle features three different drive programs and five recuperation stages to enhance efficiency.

The eSprinter maintains the familiar Sprinter design and offers a load capacity of 488 cubic feet, a maximum payload of 2,624 pounds, and a permissible gross vehicle weight of 4.25 tons. The electric van can be customized for various purposes, such as a mobile workshop or a spacious delivery van, with options from Mercedes' eXpertUpfitter program.

Optional extras for the eSprinter include the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) operating system, Navigation with "Electric Intelligence," and a digital rearview mirror. The vehicle also comes with a Battery Certificate and a maintenance package that covers the first four years of service.

US deliveries of the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter are expected to begin in the second half of the year.
