2024 Skoda Kodiaq: a sneak peek at the next-gen flagship SUV

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq SUV is set to be unveiled in early October, and the Czech brand has given us a sneak peek of the all-new interior. The upcoming model will feature physical climate control dials, sustainable materials, and the brand's signature 'Simply Clever' touches. Skoda has combined the simplicity and functionality of the current Kodiaq's interior with the more modern design of the all-electric Enyaq iV's cabin.

The centerpiece of the new Kodiaq interior is a 13-inch free-standing touchscreen, below which are the Skoda's new 'Smart Dials' that will also be featured in the latest Skoda Superb. Each dial has a 32 millimeter display, with the outer two dedicated to cabin temperature and heating and cooling for the driver and front passenger seat. The central dial can be used to adjust the volume, fan speed, or drive mode.

Other new additions to the forthcoming Kodiaq include a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit driver's display and a head-up display. The gear selector has been moved from the center console to the steering column, making room for a wireless charging pad large enough for two smartphones.

The next Kodiaq will also offer an umbrella and ice scraper in the driver's door, and customers can choose from different interior design schemes: Loft, Lounge, or ecoSuite in Black or Cognac. The textiles used in select models will be made from 100% recycled polyester, while the leather in others will be produced using an eco-friendly tanning process.

The outgoing Kodiaq, launched in 2016, is still a popular family car known for its practicality and range of powertrains. The new Kodiaq will expand the range of powertrains and will be slightly longer than the previous model, offering a larger boot space. Customers can opt for seven seats, although this reduces the boot space slightly.

The Kodiaq will continue to compete with key rivals in the large SUV class, such as the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe. The next-generation Kodiaq has been spotted testing and is expected to have an evolutionary style with familiar elements brought up to date. The underpinnings of the new model will be based on the more recent MQB Evo platform.

The new Kodiaq will be available with mild-hybrid assistance from launch, with a plug-in hybrid version expected to join the range later. Skoda is also working on an all-electric seven-seat SUV, but this will be based on a different concept and is due for release in 2026. The new Kodiaq and the upcoming fourth-generation Superb will be produced on the same production line in the Czech Republic.

Skoda plans to fully reveal the new Kodiaq in early October 2023, with the fourth-generation Superb making its world debut in November. Pricing for the second-generation Kodiaq is expected to see a slight increase compared to the current model.
