Ford F-150 Lobo - Street Performance Truck
【Summary】Ford is reportedly working on a street-oriented performance truck called the F-150 Lobo. The Lobo will be a standalone trim level with a lowered suspension and aggressive design. The engine options are expected to be powerful, possibly including a 5.0-liter V8 or a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. It is unclear whether the Lobo will be rear- or all-wheel-drive. Ford will unveil the updated 2024 F-150 at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show, and if the rumors are true, the Lobo will be revealed as well.
High-performance pickups designed for the road rather than the trail have been scarce, but Ford is reportedly looking to change that. According to a new report, the company is working on a version of the F-150 called Lobo, which is described as a hot rod with a cargo box.
In the past, Ford has sold two generations of the F-150 Lightning, from 1993 to 1995 and from 1999 to 2004. However, the Lightning name now represents the electric variant of the F-150. The upcoming Lobo is expected to take its place. Historically, Lobo has been the name used for the F-150 sold in the Mexican market.
According to inside sources, the Lobo will be offered as a standalone trim level, similar to the Raptor, rather than just an appearance package. It will feature a lowered suspension system and an exterior design described as "sinister and aggressive." However, specific details such as available cab configurations have not been revealed yet.
While it's too early to confirm the engine options for the F-150 Lobo, it is expected to have a powerful engine to match its muscular appearance. It is unlikely to come with the base 3.3-liter V6 engine found in the standard F-150. Possible engine choices include the 5.0-liter V8 with 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, or the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque found in the entry-level F-150 Raptor.
It remains to be seen whether the Lobo will be rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. The previous generations of the F-150 Lightning were rear-wheel-drive, as were most high-performance pickups from the 1990s.
Ford has confirmed that the updated 2024 F-150 will be unveiled at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show in September. However, the company has not commented on the Lobo report or officially announced plans to expand the F-150 range with a Lobo model. If the rumor is true, more information about the 2024 F-150 Lobo may be revealed at the auto show, and sales are expected to start soon after.
