2025 Ford Mustang GTD: A Glimpse of the Supercar Future
【Summary】The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD has a starting price of around $300,000, which may seem high for a Mustang but is justified by its advanced technology. It competes with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and 911 S/T, and is expected to rival the upcoming Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, despite no longer being in production, serves as a benchmark for the Mustang GTD's performance.
An exact MSRP for the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD has not been specified yet, but it is expected to have a starting price of around $300,000. While this may seem quite high for a vehicle with the Mustang name, the technology incorporated in the GTD, some of which is not even legal in race cars, justifies this price.
Comparing it to other sports cars in the market, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is priced more than $55k lower than the GTD. However, the GT3 RS has a lower horsepower of 'only' 518 and lacks the racing heritage that the Mustang GTD possesses. Nonetheless, it still remains a formidable track toy. Another competitor, the new Porsche 911 S/T, comes closer in price, with a price tag just under $300k, but it does not offer any additional power. On the horizon, the 2026 release of the new 911 GT2 RS may present a closer rival to the GTD. Known for being the most extreme version of the 911, the GT2 RS is expected to generate over 700 horsepower from a mild-hybrid-assisted powertrain.
In addition to these competitors, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, although no longer in production, is worth mentioning. It is the only front-engined sports car that has achieved a sub-7-minute lap time at the Nurburgring, with a time of 6:43.616. This lap time serves as the target that the Mustang GTD aims to surpass, further highlighting its performance capabilities.
