65mph Maeving RM1S is being developed

If you were hesitant about the Maeving RM1 due to its modest top speed of 45mph, the new RM1S version might catch your interest.

The RM1S features a new hub motor that delivers 14.1bhp, a significant increase compared to the standard Maeving RM1's 5.9bhp. As a result, the minimum age requirement to ride the RM1S has been raised to 17 years old, although it still falls within the limit for riders with L-plates after completing a CBT.

The additional power has a remarkable impact on performance, allowing the RM1S to reach a top speed of 65mph instead of 45mph. This upgrade makes the bike much more versatile than its predecessor. Despite the increased power, the range remains the same at 80 miles. However, Maeving has equipped the bike with 30% larger battery packs.

The RM1S can be operated using only one of the two battery packs, which reduces the range to a still respectable 40 miles. The batteries can be charged in place or removed from the bike and charged elsewhere using the optional battery dock. Charging both packs from empty to 80% takes approximately 3.5 hours, while reaching 100% takes around 4.5 hours.

Maeving developed the RM1S in response to customer feedback, specifically from riders who desired more power and speed. The bike's aesthetics have largely remained the same, featuring a long wheelbase, wire wheels, and a spacious bobber-style seat. However, if you look closely, you'll notice that the central housings for the batteries are slightly larger, and the front brake has been upgraded to a 300mm disc squeezed by a three-piston caliper. Additionally, Maeving has introduced four new special edition liveries for the RM1S.

Co-founder Will Stirrup shared his thoughts on the new bike, stating, "The RM1S is the bike we have been asked over and over to build by those riders who want a zero-emissions motorcycle that looks like an RM1 but is capable of highway speeds. We've worked extremely hard to ensure that everything that has made the RM1 so popular with our customers is carried over to the new RM1S, while delivering the greater performance that will mean it can be used in a much wider variety of use cases. The original Maeving RM1 has been a huge success for us, and for many riders who stay within inner city limits, it will remain the perfect motorcycle. Adding the RM1S to the collection provides an electric motorcycle for those that need to cover wider geographies at higher speeds."

The RM1S is priced at £7,495, compared to £5,999 for the RM1. Deliveries are set to begin in March 2024.
