The new BMW X2 and its electric iX2 counterpart have been unveiled, showcasing larger dimensions and a higher price tag. Unlike its coupe-style siblings, the X4 and X6, the X2 has always been more of a crossover or higher-riding hatch. However, the new X2 has undergone changes in size, making it resemble other even-numbered models in the BMW X-Series. It is now longer, wider, taller, and has an extended wheelbase, along with a prominent Kidney grille.

Although the BMW X2 and iX2 have different badges and slightly different appearances, they are both considered X2 models by BMW. The main distinction lies in their powertrains, with the X2 offering internal combustion engine (ICE) options and the iX2 providing an electric powertrain.

In the UK, the X2 is available in two ICE variants. The sDrive20i features a 1.5-liter mild hybrid engine producing 168bhp, achieving a 0-62mph time of 8.3 seconds and an economy of 47.1mpg. On the other hand, the M35i xDrive boasts a more powerful 296bhp engine, delivering 295lb/ft of torque and accelerating from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds.

As for the electric iX2, it is equipped with a 68.8kWh battery offering a range of 266 miles. It generates 309bhp, enabling it to accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds. The iX2 supports an 11kW AC charger and has a DC charging rate of 130kW.

In the UK, the X2 comes with standard M Sport trim, which includes features like 19" alloys, adaptive suspension, heated sports seats, climate control, automatic lights and wipers, and a reversing camera. The interior is similar to that of the X1, featuring a 10.25" instrument panel and a 10.7" infotainment screen with the latest iDrive system, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Deliveries of the new X2 and iX2 are scheduled to begin in March 2024. The X2 starts at £39,365, while the iX2 has a starting price of £56,540.
