BYD, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to release two new EV models in Japan by the end of 2023. The Dolphine hatchback and Seal sedan will join their existing lineup, but it remains uncertain if all three models will be showcased at the upcoming show in October. Despite a decline in international car brands participating in motor shows, the organizers of the Japan Mobility Show are aiming to transform it into a global event.

In 2019, the Tokyo Motor Show saw a decrease in the number of international car brands, with Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Renault, and Alpine no longer exhibiting. Jun Nagata, head of the show's organizing committee, stated that only national carmakers now participate in their country's motor show. However, the organizers are determined to make the Japan Mobility Show a global platform.

According to Masami Tanaka, an association official, nearly 20 foreign companies, including parts makers like Valeo, Bosch, and Hyundai Mobis, will be participating in the show. Chinese companies are also increasing their presence, with four parts makers on the list. The association's efforts to engage with foreign companies and raise the profile of the Japan Mobility Show globally have contributed to this growth.

This year's event will see a record high of over 400 participating companies, including startups, compared to 192 in the 2019 show. Around 160 companies will have booths at the Tokyo waterfront venue. While 30 to 40 percent of participating companies are from the automotive sector, the remaining 60 percent come from various industries such as IT, finance, energy, tourism, and education.

Additionally, the Japan Mobility Show will feature the H2 Energy Festival, which will include 30 live music and standup comedy acts. The festival's indoor entertainment stage will be powered entirely by hydrogen, similar to features seen at the CES and South by Southwest music and arts festivals. More details about the event will be revealed in September, and tickets are now available for purchase.

The organizers, including Jun Nagata and association Chairman Akio Toyoda, are committed to showcasing automobile and mobility technologies and underpinning Japan's future in these areas. The Japan Mobility Show aims to become a significant platform for the automotive industry and beyond.
