BYD's New Vehicle Carrier Can Transport 7,000 EVs

BYD, a rapidly growing car company, is making a name for itself in the world of electric vehicles (EVs) and is giving Tesla a run for its money in the race to become the largest EV maker. To support its expansion, BYD has proposed the idea of having its own car carrier ships to tap into global export markets. Construction of the first ship has now commenced, and it will have the capacity to transport up to 7,000 vehicles per trip.

According to a report by cnevpost, the first ship will be built by Guangzhou Shipyard International and will measure 200 meters in length. It will be capable of traveling at a speed of 18 knots or 34 km/h. The ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), but will also have a battery and energy reduction devices on board.

Last year, it was reported that BYD planned to order eight car-carrier ships at an estimated cost of $686 million USD or approximately $1.07 billion AUD.

In Australia, BYD has successfully delivered 11,831 electric vehicles to local roads, with the majority being the popular BYD Atto 3 SUV. Deliveries of the more affordable BYD Dolphin began in October, and the company aims to ship even more cars into the country in the final two months of the year.

In addition to this, BYD recently introduced the Seal, a performance-oriented sedan, at a surprisingly competitive price point. Looking ahead to 2024, BYD has plans to launch two more models in the Australian market, including a ute in the second half of the year.
