Car smashes into Welsh campsite

Nine people have been injured after a car traveling 'three times the speed limit' veered off the road and smashed into a campsite in Wales. The incident occurred at the Newgale campsite near Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire. Two of the victims are in a serious condition in the hospital, while the condition of the baby in the tent, who was saved by its cot, is unclear.

The car, a blue Ford Fiesta, collided with several people and a tent at the campsite around 10:30 pm on Saturday evening. It is believed that the car was traveling from the village of Roch towards St Davids when it crashed off the A487. The owner of the campsite, Mike Harris, stated that the car was traveling "three times the speed limit" and described the scene as the car catapulted from the road, landed about 100m away, and rolled through a tent.

The car flipped and rolled several times before crashing into the tent. Clare Harris, who runs the campsite with her husband Mike, mentioned that there was a young child, a baby, in the tent at the time, but thankfully they are okay. She described the incident as a tragic accident that the police are currently investigating.

According to Mike Harris, the incident occurred at 10:38 pm. He had left the campsite just minutes earlier and was unaware of what had happened until his staff informed him. He mentioned that the emergency services were called immediately, and there was initially concern about potential fatalities. However, there were no fatalities, and while some injuries are life-changing, none are life-threatening.

Dyfed Powys Police are appealing for witnesses and any information regarding the incident. They are particularly interested in dash-cam or doorbell footage that may have captured the vehicle being driven from Roch to the scene of the collision at Newgale campsite. The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that six people were hospitalized, with one patient being flown to the University Hospital of Wales and the others taken by road to Glangwilli Hospital and Morriston Hospital.
