DAF XB city distribution trucks: Unveiling the New Generation

DAF Trucks has unveiled the latest addition to its New Generation DAF XB truck series, which includes a range of distribution and vocational vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) ranging from 7.5 to 19 tonnes. The new series aims to support transport companies in their transition to zero emissions by offering both battery electric and conventionally powered vehicles. The DAF XB combines environmental sustainability with efficiency, safety, and comfort.

The new DAF XB series sets new standards for city and regional distribution, with tailor-made solutions available for various applications. The range includes battery electric vehicles with zero emissions, offering GVW variants of 12, 16, and 19 tonnes and ranges of up to 350 kilometers. These electric vehicles can be charged from 20 to 80% in just 40 to 70 minutes and come with dedicated sales support, planning advice, training, and a range of chargers.

In addition to electric vehicles, the DAF XB series also features powerful and efficient PACCAR PX-5 and PX-7 engines, with outputs ranging from 124 kW to 227 kW. These engines offer peak torque at low engine speeds, leading to improved fuel efficiency. The series is also ready for the application of HVO, which can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90%. The DAF XB models prioritize safety and driver comfort, with advanced driver assistance systems, outstanding direct vision, and high-quality cabs.

The new DAF XB series builds upon DAF Trucks' market-leading position in the UK distribution sector between 7.5 and 18 tonnes GVW. The lightweight and middleweight DAF rigid models are known for their maneuverability, small turning circle, driver visibility, and cab comfort. The new XB series, which will enter production in the fourth quarter of 2023, aims to offer a class-leading solution for urban and regional applications, including vocational use.

With the introduction of the new XB series, DAF completes its New Generation line-up, which includes XD, XF, XG, and XG+ trucks for distribution, long haul, and vocational applications. The new XB series, along with the XBC construction model, adds to DAF's award-winning product range. DAF Trucks has been at the forefront of zero-emission road transport, offering a range of battery electric trucks and expanding its environmental credentials with the New Generation XD and XF Electric models.

The new DAF XB Electric is designed for sustainable inner-city and regional distribution operations. It is available in 16 and 19-tonne GVW models, as well as a 12-tonne model with 17.5-inch wheels. The electric motor provides 120 or 190 kW of power, depending on the specification, and a nominal torque of 950 and 1,850 Nm respectively. The XB Electric is equipped with lithium iron phosphate battery packs, offering ranges of up to 350 kilometers. The truck can be charged using the regular electricity network, with rapid charging taking 40 to 70 minutes.

DAF Trucks also offers a range of PACCAR charging solutions, route planning advice, and driver training to support customers in the transition to zero-emission road transport. The new DAF XB series is equipped with highly efficient PACCAR PX-5 and PX-7 engines, which develop peak torque at low engine speeds for improved fuel efficiency. The series is available with a PowerLine automatic transmission, providing smooth shifts and excellent low-speed maneuverability. Factory-built bodies, extensive wheelbase options, and chassis lengths allow for optimal vehicle configuration and high payloads.

The new DAF XB and XBC models feature advanced driver assistance systems for enhanced safety, including an AEBS system, drive-off assist, side and turn assist, rear-view camera, speed limit recognition, and a drowsiness detector. The vehicles offer outstanding direct vision and driver comfort, with spacious cabs, wide-opening doors, and a low cab position for easy accessibility. The cabins feature high-quality upholstery, a new steering wheel, and a digital display showing all vehicle-related information. The XB series is designed and built at DAF's manufacturing facility in the UK.

Alongside the XB series for on-road applications, DAF is introducing the XBC series, which is designed for construction and utility applications. The XBC features a high ground clearance, a large approach angle, and a sturdy bumper for increased durability.
