A commercial vehicle manufacturer and services provider in the electric truck market has established a UK base in Warwickshire to support its expansion plans. Volta Trucks has taken over part of the American Barns office development in Warwick to facilitate the engineering and production of the Volta Zero, the world's first purpose-built all-electric 16-tonne commercial vehicle designed for last-mile urban logistics. The site currently has approximately 20 permanent staff members, along with 26 hot desk areas and meeting rooms that are in constant use.
Volta Trucks has experienced growth in recent times, and it has also opened its first service and maintenance hub in Tottenham, North London, in preparation for the operation of its first customer vehicles in the UK. Although the company was founded in Sweden in 2019, its main business and engineering operations are now carried out in the UK.
The agreement to occupy space at American Barns, which consists of converted brick farm buildings, was negotiated by commercial property experts ehB Reeves, based in Leamington. Ben Anstey, the director of electrical systems and digital experience at Volta Trucks, expressed the suitability of Warwick's central location for their engineering and business needs, emphasizing the company's commitment to reducing the environmental impact of commercial deliveries in city centers.
Simon Hain, director at ehB Reeves, considered the arrival of Volta Trucks in Warwickshire and the West Midlands as a significant achievement, highlighting the region's efforts to address emissions reduction. Hain expressed hope that having a forward-thinking automotive firm like Volta Trucks nearby would help the area become a leader in cleaner and greener logistics.
