Electric Juke concept hints at Nissan's new design

The Nissan Hyper Punk is an innovative electric crossover that showcases the future design direction for the Japanese firm's EVs. Unveiled at the Tokyo motor show, this Juke-sized crossover is described as "functional and stylish", aiming to appeal to a style-focused audience. It is the fourth and final entrant into Nissan's Hyper concept family, featuring vehicle-to-grid charging technology, origami-inspired styling cues, and AI-powered mood-sensing technology.

Nissan's intention with the Hyper Punk's styling is to go against minimalist design. The car's sharp-edged silhouette and squat proportions are accentuated by its bold 23-inch alloy wheel design and polygonal front and rear lights. This design statement sets the tone for the electric cars that Nissan plans to launch in the coming years.

While Nissan has not confirmed if any of the 'Hyper' concepts will directly evolve into production cars, the company has already announced its plan to launch 19 new electric cars globally by 2030. These concepts, including the Hyper Punk, pave the way for electric successors to popular Nissan models such as the Serena, Juke, Qashqai, and X-Trail.

In addition to the Hyper Punk, Nissan also showcased the Hyper Tourer concept at the Tokyo motor show. This minivan rivals the Volvo EM90 and boasts fully autonomous capability, high-density solid-state batteries, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology, and a strong focus on aerodynamics. Its aero-optimized exterior design features a flat-sided body with sharp lines and deep, chiseled front and rear bumpers. The interior combines technology with the essence of Japanese hospitality, and the vehicle has been developed with long-distance travel in mind.

The Hyper Tourer concept's high-density batteries have been cleverly packaged to maximize interior space and keep the center of gravity low, resulting in smoother acceleration and braking. The design also incorporates channels in the bodywork to enhance airflow and wheels designed for minimal drag. The high waistline is adorned with a white strip that seamlessly transitions into the daytime-running light at the front.
