Electric vehicles steal the spotlight at Munro's East Kilbride open day

MUNRO Vehicles, a manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, recently had MSP Graham Simpson visit its headquarters to witness the beginning of vehicle production. Munro hosted an open day in East Kilbride, where 61 investors, deposit holders, and fans were given tours of the workshops where the first customer vehicles are being produced.

The visit concluded with a Q&A session with the company's founders, where visitors asked questions about production schedules and the capabilities of the MK_1 electric-powered, four-wheel-drive vehicle. The first two Munro MK_1 customer vehicles being built in East Kilbride are Founder Editions. The first vehicle, a black truck, is being constructed to Munro's Range specification. It has 220kW of power, 600Nm of torque, an estimated range of 190 miles, and a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes.

The second vehicle is a gloss-white pick-up built in the ultimate Performance guise. It features a 280kW battery, 700Nm of torque, a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, and an estimated range of 190 miles. The Munro MK_1 is considered a groundbreaking solution that combines the reliability and repairability of a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions.

The spacious rear bed of the vehicle can hold a 1,050kg Euro Pallet payload, while the Performance model has a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, making it suitable for transporting farm implements, livestock, construction equipment, and disaster relief supplies. More than 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models have already been received, and Munro is ready to capitalize on the significant global market opportunity with the support of financial partners as they approach the completion of their first two production models.

Graham Simpson MSP, a member of the Scottish Parliament sustainable transport and renewable energy and energy efficiency cross-party groups, expressed his fascination with Munro Vehicles and what they have to offer as Scotland's first volume automotive manufacturer in over four decades. Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson stated that he and his team are proud to share the engineering and passion behind building these incredible all-terrain electric vehicles. They were delighted to welcome MSP Graham Simpson to their headquarters and show him the innovation in sustainable transport that Scotland has to offer.
