MUNRO Vehicles, a manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, recently hosted an open day at its HQ in East Kilbride, welcoming investors, deposit holders, and fans to see the first vehicles entering production. The event included tours of the workshops where the customer vehicles are being built.
During the visit, attendees had the chance to participate in a Q&A session with the company's founders. They asked various questions about production schedules and the capabilities of the Munro MK_1 electric-powered, four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The first two customer vehicles being hand-built at the East Kilbride site are Founder Editions. The black truck, built to Munro's Range specification, has a power of 220kW, torque of 600Nm, an estimated range of 190 miles, and a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes. The second vehicle, a gloss-white pick-up in Performance guise, features a 280kW battery, torque of 700Nm, a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, and an estimated range of 190 miles.
The Munro MK_1 is a groundbreaking solution that combines the reliability and repairability of a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. The spacious rear bed can carry a 1,050kg Euro Pallet payload, while the Performance model is ideal for hauling farm implements, livestock, construction equipment, and disaster relief supplies with its maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg.
Munro has already received over 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models. With the support of financial partners, the company is well-positioned to seize the significant global market opportunity as it nears completion of its first two production models.
Graham Simpson MSP, a member of the Scottish Parliament sustainable transport and renewable energy and energy efficiency cross-party groups, expressed his fascination with Munro Vehicles. He remarked, "It has been fascinating to visit Munro Vehicles and see what Scotland's first volume automotive manufacturer in over four decades has to offer."
Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson expressed his pride in the team and their work. He said, "The team and I are proud to have the opportunity to share the engineering and passion that goes into building these incredible all-terrain electric vehicles. It was a pleasure to welcome MSP Graham Simpson to our HQ and show him what Scottish innovation in sustainable transport looks like."
