EV inquiry

An inquiry has been launched by the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee to gain a better understanding of how the UK will achieve net zero through the use of electric vehicles (EVs). The committee will specifically focus on the barriers to decarbonizing cars and vans, with an emphasis on passenger cars.

Committee chair Baroness Kate Parminter highlighted the importance of individuals making changes to their lives, including how they travel and what they buy, in order to reach net zero. She mentioned that the use of EVs for passenger transport is a crucial part of this effort, and the government has already committed to ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030.

The committee's investigation will assess the government's strategy for achieving the phase-out dates of 2030 and 2035, as well as examine infrastructure and charging issues at both national and regional levels.

Baroness Parminter also expressed the committee's desire to gather input from the public, industry, local authorities, and other stakeholders involved in decarbonizing transport. They are interested in hearing about people's experiences with acquiring and using EVs in the UK, as well as the barriers they face. Additionally, they want to gather insights on what actions the government should take to encourage greater adoption of EVs ahead of the 2030 and 2035 targets.
