The Rimac Nevera has set a new Nürburgring lap record for a production electric car, clocking in at an impressive time of 7 minutes and 5 seconds to complete a full lap of the 12.8-mile circuit.

This achievement is significant considering the rapid advancements in electric car technology, proving that EVs can handle the demanding conditions of 'The Green Hell' and any other situation.

Driven by Croatian racing driver Martin Kodrik, the Nevera surpassed the previous record set by the Tesla Model S Track Pack by 20 seconds, which had a lap time of 7 minutes and 25.231 seconds.

The Nürburgring circuit presents a unique challenge with its varied corners and 13-mile course, offering valuable insights to car manufacturers on the strengths and areas for improvement of their vehicles.

As a result, holding a Nürburgring lap record is a prestigious accolade for manufacturers, many of whom have dedicated years to refining their cars on the Nordschleife in pursuit of being crowned the fastest.

These lap records are categorized based on different types of cars. Check out the fastest lap times in each major category.

It's worth noting that the 'official' length of the lap was increased in 2019, with the full 12.944-mile circuit now being considered for record times. Previously, the lap was measured on a 12.8-mile circuit, excluding a short stretch of the T13 straight at the end. This change has had an impact on lap times.

The Mercedes-AMG One has recently set a new lap record for production cars at the Nürburgring, surpassing the previous record by nearly 10 seconds. Driven by Mercedes DTM driver Maro Engel on October 28, the hypercar completed the 156-corner circuit in a time of 6 minutes and 35.183 seconds. This lap time also secured the record for the super-sports car category.

The Mercedes-AMG One is often referred to as a Formula 1 car for the road, boasting a powerful combination of a modified turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 grand prix engine and four electric motors. With a price tag of £2.2 million, it is the most potent road car ever produced by Mercedes-AMG.

In second place is the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (with Manthey Performance Kit), which completed a lap of the Nürburgring in 6 minutes and 43.30 seconds, breaking the previous record by 4.747 seconds and achieving an average speed of 115.5 mph. The lap was driven by Porsche works driver Lars Kern.
