Ford F150 Lightning electric vehicle seen in Australia
【Summary】The Ford F150 Lightning electric ute has been spotted in Australia, possibly indicating plans for its release. The vehicle, which measures 5.91 meters in length, was seen in Brisbane in the XLT variant with specific features. The starting price for the XLT variant is $US54,995, and it comes with various amenities. It is uncertain if the vehicle is in Australia for testing or if Ford intends to bring it to the market. Currently, Ford is selling the CE version of the F150 light truck in Australia.
Ford has recently expanded its electric vehicle (EV) range in Australia with the release of the Mustang Mach-E electric sedan and the E-Transit commercial van. Now, it seems that another popular electric vehicle might be on the horizon.
The F150 Lightning, the electric version of Ford's massive ute, has been spotted in Brisbane by an EV enthusiast named wynchil. Two pictures of the navy blue truck were shared on Twitter, giving us a glimpse of this impressive vehicle.
One of the photos shows the F150 Lightning reversing into a parking spot next to a Hyundai Santa Fe ICE SUV, providing a sense of its size. The F150 Lightning measures 5.91 meters in length, showcasing its substantial presence.
Based on the details observed in the photos, it appears that the spotted vehicle is the F150 Lightning XLT variant in a right-hand-drive configuration. The wheels on the F150 match those found on the base Pro and XLT versions offered in the US. Additionally, the sighted vehicle features a light bar that is typically found on the XLT variant.
The XLT variant of the F150 Lightning has a starting price of $US54,995, which is approximately $A85,100. This price does not include transportation or conversion fees in Australia. Ford also offers more premium variants in the US, such as the Lariat and Platinum editions.
The XLT variant comes with various features, including signature front lighting, a 360-camera system, an interior work surface, an available extended-range battery, enhanced zone lighting, and extended running boards. It is available with either a 98 kWh standard battery pack or a 131 kWh extended-range battery pack. The standard battery pack provides an EPA range of 385 km.
In terms of performance, the F150 Lightning XLT variant in the US has a towing capacity of 4.5 tonnes, thanks to its 1,054 Nm of torque and 344 kW of power from its 4x4 drivetrain.
It remains unclear whether the F150 Lightning spotted in Brisbane is for testing purposes or if Ford has plans to officially bring it to Australia in the near future. Currently, Ford is selling the CE version of the F150 light truck in the XLT variant with an estimated driveaway price of $116,000.
We will continue to keep an eye out for more sightings of this particular vehicle and hope that Ford decides to introduce the F150 Lightning in Australia. Increasing the options available in the market will likely encourage more drivers to make the switch to an electric vehicle.
