Ford Transit Custom Nugget revealed

Ford has unveiled the new Transit Custom Nugget, a campervan built in collaboration with German specialist Westfalia. The campervan features a redesigned interior that is entirely modular, allowing for easy access to cooking, seating, and sleeping areas. The layout has been optimized to provide more countertop space, and the cabinets now have a soft-close feature to reduce noise.

The exterior of the Transit Custom Nugget has also been updated with a sleeker design. It features thinner headlights, a new grille with a light bar running across the top, and smaller tail lights at the rear. These changes give the campervan a more futuristic look compared to the outgoing model.

One of the standout features of the Transit Custom Nugget is its versatility. The front seats can swivel around to face the rear, allowing for the entire interior to be utilized. There is also a second row that provides three additional seats, bringing the total occupancy to five when on the move.

Inside the cabin, the Transit Custom Nugget offers two double bed spaces. One is created by folding down the rear seating area, while the other is accessible by popping up the Dormer roof. The roof section has a clever design that allows the mattress to be folded, increasing headroom over the kitchen area when needed. Additionally, an optional solar panel can be added to the roof to help charge the battery when off-grid.

In terms of technology, the Transit Custom Nugget is equipped with high-tech features to enhance the camping experience. It has a 5G modem for WiFi access, a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen for controlling ambient lighting and onboard heating, and provides information on water and battery levels.

Powering the Transit Custom Nugget is a range of powertrains. The diesel version comes with a 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbocharged engine paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It will be available in front or all-wheel drive. In addition to the diesel option, Ford will also offer a plug-in hybrid version with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor, and an 11.8kWh battery. Performance figures for the hybrid version are yet to be confirmed.

The new Transit Custom Nugget features a more sophisticated independent rear suspension, providing a more car-like driving experience. It also offers all-wheel drive for improved capability in light off-roading conditions. Driver assistance technology includes active cruise control and a 360-degree camera for better visibility when parking.

The diesel version of the Transit Custom Nugget will go on sale in Autumn 2023, with deliveries expected in spring 2024. The plug-in hybrid model will be available a year later. Pricing details have not been announced yet, but the entry-level diesel models are expected to start from over £60,000.
