GM cuts 200 engineering jobs

General Motors (GM) has announced plans to cut approximately 200 engineering positions, with affected employees being given the opportunity to transition to other roles within the company. According to a spokesperson for GM, this move is part of the automaker's efforts to realign its engineering resources with its growth strategy.

In a statement, the spokesperson explained that the company will be working closely with those affected by the job cuts, providing them with the chance to apply for open positions within GM. This transition is expected to take place over the next few months.

The decision to reduce engineering positions comes as GM implements its new strategy called "Winning with Simplicity." The goal of this strategy is to streamline design and engineering processes, resulting in lower costs and reduced complexity in vehicle orders and manufacturing.

As part of this strategy, GM aims to cut the number of trim levels in half. By doing so, the company hopes to simplify marketing, engineering, and manufacturing processes, while still providing customers with the features they desire. GM's CEO, Mary Barra, highlighted the importance of this approach during the company's second-quarter earnings call in July.

With these changes, GM is striving to optimize its operations and ensure long-term growth and success in the automotive industry.
