GM's "Ultium-Based Coupes" Set to Debut in 2026

General Motors is expanding its lineup of electric vehicles with a focus on dedicated EV architectures and Ultium batteries. So far, GM has launched electric SUVs and pickups such as the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, Hummer EV SUV, and Cadillac Lyriq. However, the company has plans to release more Ultium-based electric SUVs and trucks, including the Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, and Buick Electra E5 SUV.

In addition to these models, GM will also introduce the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Cadillac Celestiq ultra-luxury sedan. And now, it seems that at least one coupe will be added to GM's EV lineup. In a video announcing the availability of V2H (vehicle-to-home) capability across its Ultium-based EVs by 2026, GM mentioned that bi-directional charging will be offered on "Ultium-based coupes."

This announcement has sparked speculation about what GM's electric coupes could be. While no specific details were provided, it's worth considering the possibility of an all-electric Corvette and Camaro. GM President Mark Reuss previously confirmed plans for a "fully electric version" of the Corvette, following the release of the E-Ray hybrid. Reports have also suggested that GM may turn the Corvette into a standalone EV brand, offering four-door and SUV models as well. As for the Camaro, there is a chance it could go all-electric as a coupe, especially since GM stated that the 2024 model year will not be the final chapter for the nameplate.

With the mention of "Ultium-based coupes" in the video, it remains to be seen if both the Corvette and the Camaro will transition to Ultium technology while maintaining their iconic two-door body styles. It's also possible that Cadillac and Buick could introduce their own electric coupes, as seen with the Wildcat Concept.
