GM's "Ultium-Powered Coupes" Set to Debut in 2026

General Motors is expanding its lineup of electric vehicles with a focus on dedicated EV architectures and Ultium batteries. So far, the company has introduced SUVs and pickups such as the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, Hummer EV SUV, and Cadillac Lyriq. However, more Ultium-based electric SUVs and trucks are on the way, including the Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, and Buick Electra E5 SUV.

In addition to these models, the Ultium lineup will also feature the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Cadillac Celestiq ultra-luxury sedan. Now, it seems that General Motors will also be adding at least one coupe to its EV stable. In a video discussing the availability of vehicle-to-home (V2H) capability across its Ultium-based EV lineup by 2026, GM mentioned that bi-directional charging will be offered on "Ultium based coupes."

This announcement has sparked curiosity and speculation about what these Ultium-based coupes could be. While GM did not provide further details, the Camaro and Corvette nameplates immediately come to mind as potential candidates for all-electric coupes. GM President Mark Reuss previously confirmed plans for a "fully electric version" of the Corvette, following the production of the E-Ray hybrid. However, it remains unclear if the BEV Corvette will be a coupe. There were reports last year suggesting that GM may transform the Corvette into a standalone EV brand, offering four-door and SUV models starting in 2025.

The Camaro, on the other hand, seems more likely to transition into an all-electric coupe, especially since GM stated that the 2024 model year will be the last for the current generation. However, GM's mention of "Ultium-based coupes" in the video leaves room for the possibility of EV coupes from Cadillac and Buick as well. It's worth recalling the Wildcat Concept as an example of what could be in store.
