JLR to launch eco-friendly truck fleet in the UK

JLR (formerly Jaguar Land Rover) has announced plans to introduce a new fleet of bio-fuelled lorries across the UK in April 2024. The goal of this initiative is to significantly reduce the company's carbon emissions from road freight.

The company estimates that by switching to these more sustainable HGVs, which include 219 biofuel-powered lorries and one battery-electric lorry, they will be able to cut their road-freight CO2 output by a staggering 8433 tonnes. This reduction represents an impressive 84% decrease in carbon emissions.

The bio-fuelled HGVs will be powered by a combination of bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and hydrogenated vegetable oil. This innovative fuel combination is expected to bring a minimum CO2 saving of 85% per lorry. Additionally, the hydrogenated vegetable oil will be used to reduce the emissions of existing lorries, further contributing to the company's sustainability efforts.

In addition to transitioning to new fuels, JLR will also be making changes to the size of their lorries. They will be switching to using 15.6-metre lorries, which will likely have a positive impact on their overall carbon footprint and efficiency in road freight transportation.
