JLR's sustainable lorry fleet to be launched in the UK

JLR (formerly Jaguar Land Rover) has announced plans to introduce a new fleet of bio-fuelled lorries across the UK in April 2024. The goal is to significantly reduce the company's carbon emissions from road freight.

The plan involves switching to a total of 220 more sustainable HGVs. Out of these, 219 will run on biofuels, while one will be battery-electric. This shift is expected to result in a remarkable 84% reduction in JLR's road-freight CO2 output, which amounts to 8433 tonnes.

The bio-fuelled HGVs will be powered by a combination of bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and hydrogenated vegetable oil. This combination will bring a minimum CO2 saving of 85% per lorry. Additionally, the hydrogenated vegetable oil will be used to reduce the emissions of JLR's existing lorries.

Alongside the transition to new fuels, JLR will also be switching to using 15.6-metre lorries. This change is expected to further optimize the company's logistics and contribute to its overall sustainability efforts.
