Liverpool flood tragedy: Couple trapped in Mercedes under bridge

The tragic couple who were trapped in their Mercedes and died in the Liverpool flood disaster have been identified as Philip and Elaine Marco. The incident occurred in the Mossley Hill area of the city at around 9pm on Saturday. Despite efforts from firefighters and police, the couple could not be revived.
Witnesses described the scene as resembling a burst dam, with red lights visible under the water. The flood, which may have been caused by a burst pipe, reached a height of 15ft and created powerful currents beneath the Liverpool bridge. Dramatic footage shows the car being submerged by water, while a fountain of water is seen beyond the bridge.
Members of the public attempted to help the couple, but unfortunately, they did not survive. Merseyside Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred on Queens Drive between North Mossley Hill Road and Dovedale Road. Locals have reported that this road has been a problem for some time, with multiple cars getting stuck in deep water during heavy rain.
Formal identification has been made, and the next of kin have been notified. The coroner has requested further investigation into the incident. Detective Chief Inspector Mike Dalton has expressed condolences to the family and urged anyone with information or footage related to the accident to come forward.
