New DAF XB Trucks Revolutionize City Distribution

DAF Trucks has unveiled its latest New Generation DAF XB truck series, which includes a range of distribution and vocational vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) ranging from 7.5 to 19 tonnes. The new series focuses on supporting transport companies in their transition to zero emissions, offering both battery electric and conventionally powered vehicles. The DAF XB combines low environmental impact with efficiency, safety, and comfort.

The DAF XB series sets new standards for city and regional distribution, providing tailor-made solutions in the 7.5 to 19-tonne GVW range. It boasts the lowest carbon footprint while delivering class-leading efficiency, safety, and comfort. The battery electric variants of the XB series are designed for urban distribution, with GVW options of 12, 16, and 19 tonnes and ranges of up to 350 kilometers. These electric trucks can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 40 to 70 minutes and come with dedicated sales support, planning advice, training, and a range of charging solutions.

For conventional powertrains, the DAF XB series offers powerful and efficient PACCAR PX-5 and PX-7 engines, ranging from 124 kW (170 hp) to 227 kW (310 hp). These engines provide low-end torque for improved fuel efficiency. The trucks are equipped with an 8-speed, fully automatic PowerLine transmission and are ready for the use of HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) for up to 90% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The DAF XB series also introduces new standards in safety, with a full set of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and outstanding direct vision. The trucks are designed for driver comfort, featuring high-quality cabs with excellent accessibility and a customizable digital display. The DAF XBC variant is specifically designed for construction applications, with features like high ground clearance and an excellent approach angle.

With the introduction of the XB series, DAF completes its New Generation line-up, which includes XD, XF, XG, and XG+ trucks for various applications. The XB series represents a new class-leading range of distribution trucks, offering tailor-made solutions for urban and regional applications. DAF aims to support the development of livable cities with its new series, combining environmental leadership, efficiency, safety, and driver comfort.

DAF Trucks has been a pioneer in offering battery electric trucks in Europe, and the new XB Electric model further expands its zero-emission product range. The XB Electric is designed for sustainable inner-city and regional distribution operations, with models ranging from 12 to 19 tonnes GVW. These electric trucks offer ranges of up to 350 kilometers and can be charged rapidly from 20% to 80% in 40 to 70 minutes. DAF also provides a comprehensive range of charging solutions, route planning advice, and driver training to support customers in their transition to zero-emission road transport.

In addition to electric powertrains, the DAF XB series is available with efficient PACCAR PX-5 and PX-7 engines. These engines provide peak torque at low engine speeds, supporting fuel efficiency. The trucks are equipped with PowerLine automatic gearboxes for smooth and comfortable driving. Various transmission options are available, including manual and automatic gearboxes.

The DAF XB series offers a range of factory-built body options, including PACCAR Box, Aerobody, and Curtainside options. The chassis design allows for easy integration of bodywork, with various wheelbases and chassis lengths available to accommodate different body sizes. The XB series is built at DAF's manufacturing facility in the UK, Leyland Trucks.

The new DAF XB distribution truck prioritizes safety and driver comfort, offering a suite of advanced driver assistance systems. These include drive-off assist, side and turn assist, rear-view camera, speed limit recognition, tyre pressure monitoring system, drowsiness detector, alcohol interlock installation, and event data recorder. The trucks also feature outstanding direct vision, thanks to their low cab positioning and large windows.

Driver comfort is a key focus for DAF, with the XB series featuring comfortable cabs with easy accessibility. The trucks come with a range of cab options, including Day, Extended Day, and Sleeper Cabs, and offer a high level of fit and finish. The new steering wheel and digital display provide a modern and customizable driver interface.

For construction applications, DAF introduces the XBC series, which is designed for tough conditions. The XBC trucks feature a high ground clearance, large approach angle, and a sturdy bumper for added durability.
