The number of fatalities in a collision between a Honda Fit and a VW Touareg on the Harare-Mutare highway has increased to eight, with another person succumbing to their injuries. The incident occurred at the 60km peg, with the Honda Fit traveling towards Harare and allegedly veering into the oncoming lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the VW heading towards Marondera.

Tragically, seven individuals lost their lives at the scene of the accident, while four others sustained injuries. The injured parties were promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment, while the deceased were transported to Marondera Hospital mortuary. Regrettably, one of the injured individuals has now also passed away at Marondera Hospital.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has identified the eight victims of the accident as Walter Marimo (19), Watch Silas (36), Gatawa Shadreck (46), Songore Masiiwa (50), Desmond Makoso (28), Kenneth Mabwe (29), Andres Gondolosi (29), and Devine Watch (8). Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi of the Zimbabwe Republic Police has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, emphasizing the importance of avoiding speeding and unsafe overtaking.

The Honda Fit involved in the collision was carrying nine passengers, while the VW Touareg had two occupants. Witnesses to the accident expressed shock and disbelief at the tragic event.
