Nikola trucks recalled for fire hazard
【Summary】Nikola is recalling all 209 battery-powered electric trucks it has delivered due to a coolant leak causing fires. The company is suspending sales and contacting all parties involved. The investigation found no foul play and efforts are being made to provide a remedy.
Nikola Corp. has announced that it is recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales after a coolant leak inside a battery pack was found to be the cause of recent fires. The company is taking this action after the findings of a third-party investigation were corroborated by a minor thermal incident on one of the trucks. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
There are currently 209 battery-powered electric trucks in the market, including those with dealers and customers. Nikola is in the process of recalling all of these vehicles and is reaching out to all parties involved. The company is committed to providing a remedy for the issue.
Nikola initially suspected foul play when it began its investigation in June after trucks at its Phoenix, Arizona headquarters caught fire. One of the damaged trucks, which was being kept at the Phoenix site for monitoring, re-ignited last month. However, the company now believes that foul play or external factors are unlikely to have caused the incidents.
