Nissan Stagea 260RS Autech: A Wagon Sidekick to the GT-R
【Summary】The Nissan Stagea 260RS Autech, a rare and powerful wagon, is being auctioned in the US. Despite never being sold in the US, it can now be imported due to its age. The 260RS Autech shares the same drivetrain as the GT-R, including a 276 hp engine and all-wheel drive. It features special upgrades like larger brakes, a unique body kit, and a strut tower brace. Only 1,734 of these wagons were made, making it a desirable collector's item.
Fast wagons offer a unique combination of practicality and performance, and the Nissan Stagea 260RS Autech is a rare example of this. Surprisingly, one of these vehicles is now going up for auction in California, complete with a US title.
What makes this even more interesting is the fact that the Stagea was never officially sold in the United States. However, since it is now over 25 years old, it is allowed to be imported. Instead of going through the trouble of finding and importing one yourself, someone has already done the work for you, giving you the opportunity to benefit from their efforts. The only adjustment you'll need to make is getting used to the steering wheel being on the opposite side.
The Stagea model is essentially a wagon version of the Nissan Skyline, which was sold until 2007. While the Skyline is often associated with the powerful GT-R, there were also less powerful variants such as sedans and wagons like the Stagea. However, the 260RS Autech stands out for several reasons, all of which are directly linked to the GT-R.
Most notably, the 260RS Autech shares the exact same drivetrain as the GT-R, including the RB26DETT engine, manual transmission, and all-wheel drive. Although the engine is factory-rated at 276 hp (205 kW), it is believed to have even more power. This particular version of the Stagea is the only one equipped with this combination of powertrain, and it also comes with other special features.
The brakes are larger and equipped with Brembo calipers. The body kit is unique to this version and remains intact on this car. Under the hood, a strut tower brace improves chassis rigidity. Additionally, it is fitted with special 17-inch Stagea wheels and a prominent rear wing.
Only 1,734 of these Stagea 260RS Autech models were produced, and now one of them can be yours. It is currently up for auction on Cars & Bids, with the bidding already at $22,472 at the time of writing. It is expected to sell for a considerably higher price.
