I confess that at first the Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE had me confused. I was familiar with the Ariya, a striking electric SUV/crossover, but the addition of "e-4ORCE" puzzled me. I mistakenly associated it with another Nissan model, "e-POWER".

Initially, I worried that Nissan had abandoned battery-electric power for the Ariya and opted for the unique e-POWER system found in some Qashqai models. This system uses petrol to fuel a battery-electric motor powertrain, providing a solution to range anxiety. However, I soon discovered that the Ariya remains fully electric. The "e-4ORCE" designation simply means that an extra motor and four-wheel drive option are now available, enhancing the car's traction and roadholding capabilities.

Equipped with the larger battery pack, the Ariya e-4ORCE is notably faster than the two-wheel drive version, making it an impressive package overall. However, the added features come at a premium, increasing the price by £11,000 and slightly reducing the range.

In terms of design and features, the Ariya e-4ORCE maintains the same high standards as the rest of the Ariya range. The cabin is superb, with "haptic" controls on the wooden dash and fully adjustable seats. The car also offers a range of electrically-driven comforts, including a centre console that slides forward and back, and a powered tailgate. The Nissan ProPilot part-autonomous drive system works intuitively, and the switchable "e-pedal" allows for efficient operation of the accelerator and brake. The fit and finish of the car, both inside and out, are faultless, with high-quality materials used throughout.

While the Ariya e-4ORCE boasts a sensual and smart exterior design, some may find its length a drawback when it comes to parking in congested areas. However, the car's realistic range of 250 miles and fast charging capabilities help alleviate range anxiety.

Overall, the Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE offers an impressive combination of style, performance, and electric power. It may come at a premium, but for those seeking a luxurious and capable electric SUV, it is certainly worth considering.
