Polestar 4 Highway Reading with New Autonomous Tech
【Summary】The Polestar 4 will be the first vehicle to offer Mobileye's Chauffeur partially autonomous technology, allowing drivers to take their eyes off the road on highways. The technology will debut with the Polestar 4, and while it won't come straight from the factory, the electric vehicle will have Chauffeur capability thanks to Mobileye's ADAS system. This puts Polestar ahead of most competition, although Mercedes is also introducing a Level 3 autonomous system called DrivePilot.
The Polestar 4 is set to revolutionize the automotive industry with its advanced technology. Despite being a smaller company, Polestar is determined to make a name for itself by introducing Level 3 autonomous technology to the world's roads.
This groundbreaking technology is made possible through a partnership with Mobileye and its "Chauffeur" partially autonomous driving system. While the exact release date has not been announced, Polestar is confident that Chauffeur will debut with the Polestar 4.
Although the Polestar 4 recently went on sale in China, it will not come equipped with the Chauffeur technology from the factory. However, thanks to Mobileye's SuperVision-based ADAS system, the electric vehicle will have the capability to enable Chauffeur functionality.
Chauffeur offers an "eyes-off, point-to-point" autonomous driving experience on highways, while on other roads, it provides an "eyes-on automated driving" experience. This puts Polestar ahead of most of its competitors, as the majority of ADAS systems currently available are only Level 2 or 2+.
However, Mercedes is also making strides in autonomous driving with its Level 3 system called DrivePilot. Similar to Chauffeur, DrivePilot allows drivers to take their eyes off the road on certain highways, enabling them to engage in activities like reading or playing games on the infotainment system.
Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, expressed excitement about the collaboration with Mobileye, stating that it will drive innovation in their Polestar 4 electric performance SUV coupé. He emphasized that autonomous driving technology will make future journeys enjoyable for customers.
The first deliveries of the Polestar 4 are expected to begin in China before the end of 2023, with global sales and deliveries starting next year.
