Polestar 5: specifications, launch date, and complete information about the Porsche Taycan competitor

Polestar, the electric vehicle brand, has unveiled its latest model, the Polestar 5, with a unique design and innovative features. The front of the car features a split version of the iconic 'Thor's hammer' headlight design, with Polestar's 'SmartZone' panel hiding the sensors for the autonomous driver assist systems. The front wheel arches flare outwards, and the front air-intake has a dark surround that flows around the entire perimeter of the car. The sleek look is enhanced by thin styling elements at the rear, elongating the roofline. Despite the need to accommodate a battery pack, the Polestar 5 maintains a low and long appearance.

At the rear, the designers have taken a more daring approach. A distinctive light bar runs the width of the tailgate, connecting with the darker bumper area. The car also forgoes a rear window, instead utilizing side mirrors and a rear-facing camera to provide visibility. This design choice allows for a long-flowing roofline without compromising rear passenger headroom. The interior of the Polestar 5 remains mostly hidden, but it is expected to resemble the Precept concept car, with a large central touchscreen and a unique steering wheel design.

The Polestar 5 is a large car, measuring around 4.7 meters long with a 3.1-meter wheelbase. This provides ample space for rear seat occupants, aided by the windowless rear arrangement and a full-length glass roof that creates an airy feel. The interior will feature extensive use of recycled and plant-sourced materials, aligning with Polestar's commitment to sustainability.

Under the hood, the Polestar 5 will be equipped with a dual-motor electric powertrain, delivering an impressive 874bhp and 900Nm of torque. With four-wheel drive, the car promises engaging driving dynamics to match its immense power. The bespoke bonded aluminum platform, developed in the UK, ensures a lightweight and high-rigidity chassis.

In terms of range and charging, the Polestar 5 is expected to have a range of around 500km (310 miles), prioritizing fast recharging over maximum range. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath emphasizes the importance of sustainability, stating that simply increasing the battery capacity for more range is not the solution.
